1. Data controller
The data controller of Flat or Globe? is Antonio Viola. For questions about this policy or the data processed you can write to antonioviola.info@gmail.com.
2. Visits
The site counts the openings of the home page and of the simulator. For each day it stores only counters: which page, in which language and from which country, for example "2 November, simulator, Italian, Italy: 14".
The country is derived from the IP address by the provider that publishes the site (Vercel), at the time of the visit. The IP address is not stored, and neither are browser, device, identifiers or pages visited one after another: the counters cannot tell who visited the site.
3. Reports
If you send a report, the text you write, the scene link if you add it, and the date and time of sending are stored. Name, email and IP address are not stored. Reports are used only to fix the site and are read only by the controller.
Do not write personal data in the text: it would stay stored with the report. Reports are kept until the controller deletes them; you can ask for yours to be deleted by writing to the address in section 1 and quoting the text you sent.
4. Cookies and browser storage
The site does not use cookies. The simulator remembers in your browser storage the choices you make: scene settings, language and units and, while the tab stays open, the section of the home page you came from.
These data stay on your device, are not sent to anyone and only serve to bring back your choices; you can delete them in the browser settings. This is why the site shows no cookie banner.
5. Technical providers
To work, the site uses these providers. Like every web service they receive the IP address to deliver pages and data, and may record it in their own technical logs for security; these logs are not consulted or combined with other data.
- Vercel Inc., United States: publishing the site;
- Cloudflare, Inc., United States: terrain relief of the simulator;
- Aruba S.p.A., Italy: server and database of visits and reports.
Data going to the United States are covered by the safeguards of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR) for transfers outside the European Union.
6. No sharing and no advertising
The data are not sold or passed on to anyone. The site uses no third-party analytics or advertising services (for example Google Analytics); fonts are served by the site itself.
7. Donations with PayPal
The "Donate with PayPal" button opens the PayPal site, which is an independent controller of the data entered there for the donation; this site neither receives nor handles those data. PayPal's rules are in its privacy statement.
8. Legal bases and retention
- Visits: legitimate interest in knowing how much and from which countries the site is used. The counters are kept with no expiry, because they identify no one.
- Reports: legitimate interest in fixing the site, with the text you choose to send. Kept until the controller deletes them.
- Browser storage: necessary for the functions you ask for; it stays on your device until you delete it.
9. Your rights
The GDPR gives you the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection: to exercise them write to the address in section 1. You can also lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority, Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (www.garanteprivacy.it).
